FAQ
Common questions about permanent hair removal
Answers to the questions we are asked most often about diathermy and permanent hair removal.
Does diathermy hurt?
The treatment gives a brief sensation lasting one to two seconds per hair. For new customers we recommend starting with a 20-minute session to see how you find it. If you are sensitive you can apply a numbing cream such as Emla, available from any Swedish pharmacy, an hour before your appointment and cover the area with cling film.
Is the result guaranteed?
Diathermy is effective on all types of hair, including fair, fine, dark, coarse and grey. The result is guaranteed provided the treatments are followed up and you avoid plucking, waxing or threading between sessions.
When can I exercise or sunbathe after treatment?
Avoid exercise and swimming on the day of your treatment. Sunbathing should be avoided for at least 10 days afterwards. We recommend using sunscreen daily, particularly after these treatments.
Can I wear make-up after treatment?
You can wear mineral or ordinary make-up immediately after the treatment or the following day.
How many treatments are needed?
This varies from person to person and depends on how much hair there is in the area. It also depends on whether the area has previously been plucked or threaded, and some areas respond faster than others. Sideburns and the upper lip, for example, usually show results sooner than the chin and neck.
How should I prepare the hair before treatment?
When you come for diathermy the hairs should be 2–3 mm long, or longer if they are fair or fine. Please leave them to grow out properly.
Which facial suits my skin type?
That depends entirely on what your skin needs. During a skin consultation we analyse your skin with our professional skin scanner and recommend the right treatment. Dry skin often suits deeply hydrating treatments, while oily or congested skin benefits from deep-cleansing and balancing treatments. Sensitive skin needs mild, calming treatments, and mature skin often calls for anti-ageing treatments that stimulate collagen.
